The cost of providing workers’ compensation coverage varies depending upon the type of work employees perform. Workers with a higher risk of injury, such as those in the construction industry, are more costly to insure than those who are employed in a traditional office environment.
Penalties for Failure to Comply
Employers who do not have the required coverage face stiff penalties. They face a penalty of up to $2,000 per day as well as criminal fines that can be as high as $50,000. Additionally, they can be directly sued by an injured employee.
